आसामचे मुख्यमंत्री सर्बानंद सोनोवाल यांनी ऑक्टोबरच्या अखेरपर्यंत आफ्रिकन स्वाईन फिव्हरने(ASF) प्रभावित झालेल्या भागामधील 12 हजार डुकरांना ठार मारण्याचे आदेश दिले आहेत. कोविड 19 लॉकडाऊनमुळे आसामच्या पोल्ट्री क्षेत्रात आधीच परिणाम झाला असल्याचं अधिकाऱ्यांनी सांगितले. त्याच वेळी, आता आफ्रिकन स्वाइन तापमुळे राज्यात 18 हजार डुकरांचा मृत्यू झाला आहे. पहिला एएसएफ प्रकरण मे महिन्यात समोर आलं होतं.

पशुसंवर्धन व पशुवैद्यकीय विभागाचे आयुक्त सचिव श्याम जगन्नाथन यांनी मे महिन्यापासून केलेल्या अंदाजांचा हवाला देत सांगितलं की, सुमारे 18 हजार डुकरांचा मृत्यू झाला आहे. सोनोवाल यांनी दुर्गा पूजा उत्सवापूर्वी 12हजार संक्रमित डुकरांना ठार मारण्याचे आदेश दिले आहेत. प्रोटोकॉलनुसार मृत डुकरांच्या नमुन्यांची तपासणी एका भागात केली जाईल आणि एएसएफची लागण झाल्याची खात्री झाल्यास त्याभोवती सुमारे एक किमी एपिकेंटर(उपकेंद्र) परिसर म्हणून घोषित केला जाईल. मग त्या भागातील सर्व डुकरांना शिक्का मारून ठार मारण्यात येईल.

केंद्राच्या बाहेरील 1 किमी क्षेत्राला सर्विलांस झोन आणि त्यानंतर 9 किमीचा बफर झोन असे म्हणतात. राज्यातील 13 जिल्ह्यांमध्ये 33एपिकेंटर आहेत. शेजारच्या राज्यांमधून आसाममध्ये होणाऱ्या डुकरांच्या आयातीवर बंदी घातली आहे. 2019 च्या पशुगणनेनुसार आसाममध्ये डुक्करांची संख्या सर्वाधिक आहे. राज्यात सुमारे 21लाख डुक्कर आहेत.

Sonowal has ordered the killing of 12,000 infected pigs before the Durga Puja celebrations. According to the protocol, samples of dead pigs will be tested in one area and if ASF is confirmed to be infected, about one km around it will be declared as epicenter (substation) premises.
