गंगा नदीतल्या सजीवांसमोर मोठं संकट निर्माण झालं आहे. गंगा नदीतल्या डॉल्फिनच्या संरक्षणासाठी तैनात करण्यात आलेल्या कर्मचाऱ्यांना दक्षिण अमेरिकेच्या ऍमेझॉन नदीत सापडणारा सकरमाऊथ कॅटफिश आढळून आला आहे. सातासमुद्रापार आढळून येणारा मासा गंगेत सापडण्याचा प्रकार दुसऱ्यांदा घडला आहे. सकरमाऊथ कॅटफिश आढळून येताच बीएचयूच्या जंतू विभागाच्या तज्ज्ञांनी त्यावर संशोधन केलं. यानंतर या माशाची ओळख पटली. बीएचयूचे प्राध्यापक बेचनलाल यांनी दिलेल्या माहितीनुसार, ऍमेझॉन नदीत सापडणाऱ्या सकरमाऊथ कॅटफिशमुळे गंगा नदीतल्या माशांना मोठा धोका आहे. सकरमाऊथ कॅटफिश मांसाहारी असतो. त्यामुळे पाण्यातल्या इतर माशांना तो खातो. रामनगरच्या रमना गावाजवळ सकरमाऊथ कॅटफिश आढळून आला. बीएचयूच्या जंतू विभागाच्या तज्ज्ञांनी घटनास्थळी जाऊन पाहणी केली. या भागात आणखी सकरमाऊथ कॅटफिश आहेत का, याचा शोध सध्या घेतला जात आहे.

आधीच्या तुलनेत माशांच्या प्रमाणात घट

तज्ज्ञांनी दिलेल्या माहितीनुसार, गंगा नदीतल्या माशांची संख्या जवळपास २० ते २५ टक्क्यांनी कमी झालेली आहे. यामागे परदेशी मासे असल्याचं तज्ज्ञ सांगतात. याआधीही गंगा नदीमध्ये कॅटफिश आढळून आले होते. यानंतर आता सकरमाऊथ कॅटफिश सापडल्यानं चिंता वाढली आहे.
